A Tavern’s Broken Door

A Tavern’s Broken Door

Folktales tell of a tavern that was connected to all of the worlds and moons of the universe. The tavern’s name changes from tale to tale – The Giant Seadog, The Devilish Spider, The Lazy Murderer – but the basics of the story are essentially identical regardless of where one may hear this tale.

If the story is to be believed, there exists a tavern somewhere in a distant city where a broken door grants travelers access to the rest of the world. The door, it is said, has a broken hinge and hangs heavy, scraping the floor as it is opened. Depending on how hard and loud the hefty door screeches as it grinds against the tavern’s stone floor, stepping through the door will take you to a different tavern in the manyverse where there exists an identical door.

Most who hear the story dismiss it as a fairytale, a lie told to children to entertain them during the dark nights of winter. Others, those experienced in traversing the many planes of the universe, believe the tale; they search for those taverns where a broken door of stone may help them reach other places. Perhaps the tavern the PCs are visiting at this very moment has one of these magical portals waiting to be discovered.
